The Lord of the Rings
Gandalf is the wandering wizard of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001-2003) and the earlier Hobbit films, played by Ian McKellen. He guides Frodo and the Fellowship, faces the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-dum, and returns as Gandalf the White. Below are his real film quotes, each with the movie and scene it comes from.
“You shall not pass!”
“Fly, you fools!”
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
“A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.”
“Keep it secret. Keep it safe.”
“There is only one Lord of the Ring, only one who can bend it to his will. And he does not share power.”
“I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to the Shadow!”
“Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity.”
“Hobbits really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years they can still surprise you.”
“I am Gandalf the White. And I come back to you now, at the turn of the tide.”
“The board is set, the pieces are moving.”
“End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take.”
“There never was much hope. Just a fool's hope.”
“True courage is about knowing not when to take a life, but when to spare one.”
“I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love.”
“I have no memory of this place.”
